Spent Monday overhauling the shop to give me more work room. Spen $150 + tax on three heavyduty shelving units, 48″ x 24″ x 72″ (5 shelves). Two are shelves and one became a double worktable unit. The compressor arrived from Harbor Freight yesterday. It was leaking oil from the cardboard (!) packing material, but didn’t appear to suffer any damage. JMR helped me move it to the hangar. Setup was quick and easy, and (after wiping it down thoroughly to get rid of 90% of the surface oil) I fired it up. Five [...] Some more preliminary work today…I cut some stand platforms out of plywood and built a simple cinderblock-and-flooring raised platform for the shop tools (bandsaw, grinder and eventually drill press). Also bought some new Rubbermaid shelves (capacity nearly 200 lbs each). Pix: The past week has been spent ($$$) getting ready. Last Saturday and Sunday, Cummins Tools pulled their semi-trailers into the VFW in Bryan, and I managed to pick up (mostly woodworking and ancillary) tools. Got a bench vise, pneumatic drill, Ryobi bandsaw, 48″ aluminum ruler, metal chop saw, 4 shop tool stands, aviation tim snips, a [...] Saturday, Larry Perryman generously flew by Easterwood to give me a ride in his Subaru-powered RV-9A. Would I fit? Would I grin? Yes and yes. Although his prop was effectively fixed-pitch due to a problem with the Quinti hub, we climbed out at 105 MPH and over 1000 fpm.
