Eventful week!

This has been one helluva week!

Completed the trim tab (currently wedged in blocks for a week to allow the proseal to completely set) and the left elevator.

While waiting for the proseal, I fitted the elevators to the Horiz Stab and they matched perfectly! Still have to drill out the hole in the elevator horn that [...]

Rudder complete

Finished the rudder this weekend. Completely! I used proseal to stick down the trailing edge last week, and it did the trick, resulting in a dead-straight trailing edge.

Wrapped in the leading edge with a 1″ dowel but still had to do a lot of pushing and pulling to make the edges meet nicely. Drilled holes [...]

More on the LE

Connected counterbalance to spar, then riveted spar to bottom of skin with pop rivets. This time (unlike the RE) I had already drilled and dimpled the bottom skin to #30, so the pop rivets fit flush.

Time: 90 min.

The spar is connected to the skin...

Riveted the spar to the top skin of the LE. Also, drilled out the bottom of the spar and bottom skin to #30 and used the pop-dimpler to deepen the holes.

Time: 2 hrs

LE: riveting begins

The riveting has begun on the left elevator…

I’ve got the top stiffeners back-riveted in, and connected together the skeleton (forward spar, inside rib) and the counterweight assembly.

The new trim tab came in from Van’s, as well as a #30 pop-dimple set from Avery.

I’ve broken the little attachment to my spot paint gun several times, [...]

RE (all but ProSeal)

Finished the RE, drilling trailing edge and dimpling both sides of the skin, also countersinking the wedge.

All that remains is prosealing and buttoning up.

Time to start LE. Completed the primering of skeleton today. Late tonight or tomorrow, will start assembly. Also later, will primer the skeleton of the rudder in prep for final assembly.
